Most people call looking to power wash the house. That’s the right instinct and the wrong tool. A pressure washer aimed at siding drives water behind stucco, raises the grain on wood, and lifts paint off Hardie and trim. The house looks clean for a week and then the problems start.
What we do is house washing, sometimes called soft washing: a material-specific detergent applied at low pressure, left to work, then rinsed gently from the ground with extension poles. The green algae, black mildew, cobwebs and dust come off. The siding, paint and window seals stay put.

How much does house washing cost?

How often should I wash my house?

Will washing remove black streaks and green algae?

We clean the outside of houses every week, but we don’t point a pressure washer at siding. We use low pressure and a detergent matched to the material, which removes the same algae and mildew a power wash would without forcing water into the walls or lifting paint. What's the difference between house washing, power washing and soft washing?
They’re mostly the same request with different names. Pressure washing uses high-pressure water and is right for concrete, brick and pavers. Power washing usually means the same thing with heated water. Soft washing is low pressure plus detergent, and it is the correct method for roofs, siding and stucco. House washing is soft washing applied to the exterior of a home.
Can you clean stucco without damaging it?
Yes. Stucco is porous and high pressure drives water and detergent into the wall, which is how you get efflorescence and staining later. We treat stucco at low pressure with a dwell time long enough to lift the mildew out of the texture, then rinse. It comes out evenly clean without the wand marks.
